Happy New Year
Hello everyone, and welcome to my very first blog post of 2024. I deliberately waited until the new year to share my thoughts with you, considering it a great way to kick off my year and connect with you all.
At the close of the past year, I had the privilege of hosting an "Unleash Your Inner Vision; Vision Board" event after nearly a three-year hiatus. Nervous yet excited about its return, I am thrilled to report that the event left me feeling encouraged and well-prepared to tackle 2024 equipped with the necessary tools to overcome fear, self-doubt, occasional laziness, and the myriad challenges that come with being one's own worst critic. I believe many of the other guests shared this sentiment.
As we step into the new year, my chosen mantra is "CONSISTENCY." Recognizing a personal struggle with this aspect in the previous year, I deemed it the perfect word to propel me toward my own greatness in 2024. I encourage you to consider selecting a word for yourself this year or even adopt the one I've chosen. The interpretation of consistency varies for each of us. For me, it means consistently showing up for myself, striving for my best in all endeavors, refusing to settle for less, extending grace when needed, and maintaining a consistent approach to parenting my sons across all aspects of their lives—school, sports, and pushing them to excel. What does consistency mean to you? If you decide on this word for the year, I urge you to jot down its personal significance, facilitating a year-long commitment.
Reflecting on the challenges of the past year, I emphasized at my event the importance of not going through life alone. I stressed the significance of connecting with others and fostering a community that loves, encourages, and propels us toward greatness. Personally, I spent too long trying to navigate life in isolation, feeling alone for a considerable part of my journey. Last year, through essential reflection, I realized the presence of an amazing community around me—people who believe in me and desire nothing more than my success in personal, professional, spiritual, and parenting aspects.
For my first blog post, I leave you with a simple assignment: Look around you and list the names of individuals in your community whom you can call on when you feel alone and need encouragement.
Considering that suicide is the leading cause of death worldwide, as highlighted by the National Library of Medicine, this fact deeply saddens me. I can't help but wonder if more people knew they were not alone and understood the impact of a positive community, would the rates be different? While I can't answer that, my goal is to ensure that those in my community know they are loved and appreciated.
You all are part of my community—my kids' aunties and uncles—constantly offering parental advice, showing up to events, and encouraging me to persevere when I'm tempted to give up.
If you ever need someone to talk to about anything, remember that I am also a certified Life Coach. Feel free to send me a message if you'd like to schedule a session. For this month only, I'm offering a special $24 rate for a 30-minute phone session to discuss anything you'd like—personal issues, career goals, general advice, parenting advice, past trauma help, etc.
Until next time, don't forget to extend kindness to someone today. You never know who needs a sprinkle of your kindness.
